What Is Windshield Calibration?

As vehicles slowly make the change from autonomous driving to Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), windshields need to adjust to meet the standards. Windshield calibration is the process of adjusting the parameters of a camera to capture the entirety of the road, guaranteeing the accuracy and reliability of ADAS.

Do I Have To Calibrate My Windshield?

If you have an ADAS system on your vehicle then it is extremely important to have your windshield calibrated. With use, your camera can slowly move and have an altered view of the road making it unsafe.

When Should I Have My Windshield Calibrated?

If you:

  • have had a windshield replacement

  • have a fault code showing up on your dashboard

  • have disconnected your camera

  • have changed your suspension

  • have changed the alignment of your tires

Are There Laws About Windshield Calibration?

The law currently states that the service shop that replaces your windshield must also calibrate your windshield. If you should choose to opt out of a windshield calibration (highly unrecommended), then you must sign a waiver stating that you opted out of the service and that you take responsibility should an accident occur.
